Noob question I am playing around with Truenas and learning the ins and outs with my test setup.
Right now I have 4 older but good 1tb hdd in ZFS1 I want to simulate a hdd failure and do a rebuild.
I don't want to get a new 1tb drive that would be a waste of money, I was going to pick up a 4tb drive as 8 of them is what will end up in this box down the road.
Will it let me rebuild the array with the 4tb drive and use use 1tb of it?

I had a 72-page dissertation ready... :frown:
Lol. I was searching for the answer and everybody asking questions was about expanding the array with a larger drive.

I just want to brake it then fix it. I am taking my self to school so when I have this thing full with 8 4TB drives I'll know what to expect more or less.

Is it possible in the future to use not 1 TB, but all 4, that is, use the entire disk space without losing data?

Yes.

[Some extra words]
When you have replaced all 4 then the array will expand to encompass all the available space. But not until then
