2 3TB drives in RAID1
8 GB RAM, FreeNAS 9.3 x64

I had a drive failure ada0.
It was not showing up in the Volume status, so I could not take the drive offline. Assuming it was already offline.
Swapped out for the same size drive.
Fired it up.
Now getting a critical error,
When I try to check in Storage:
Data1 0 (Error) Error getting available space - - UNKNOWN

I have no option to view the Volume status.
When I select the View Volume, the only option I get at the bottom of the screen is to "Detach Volume".

Is this a swapping error and I need to go back and take the original drive offline somehow first?

OK, I'm just tired and blind (it's 4 am, I have an excuse!).
I reconnected the old drive and it was listed for me to take it offline.
Did so, put in the replacement...resilvering as I type.

Whew. Off to bed for me now.

You have data loss in your pool from not having proper data protection at some point. Sometimes you can remove those files but since you have done metadata corruption you are going to have to rebuild your pool. Copy as much of as possible.

Copying underway.
Should I have any concern of using the same HDDs for the rebuild?

Do I need to specifically reformat the drives before rebuilding? Or is that taken care of anyway in resetting everything...

Looks like the drives are ok to use. You are not maintaining them very well though. You need to be running consistent smart tests on them. Read the manual to learn how. Doing this would probably have prevented your current situation. You should also fully test and burn in that new drive and probably the old one also. Check out my signature for how to link.

Thanks for the info, info, info! lol.
I'll read through and do the burn in and start doing smart tests regularly. Learn new things everyday.
Le sigh.

New problem though.

OS won't boot up completely.
Stops at the same point each time.
Does this mean anything:

Your boot device is probably dead. Time to replace it. Hope you backed up your config file and/or encryption keys.

Run a memtest as well. That many checksum errors generally means you have some bad hardware.
