Removing Raid Card & Expansion Adapter

Hey all,

Quick question - My current server has a Dell H310IBM HBA and a ServeRAID 16-Port SAS-2 SATA Expansion Adapter plugged into a ASRock Rack MB X470D4U.

I have pools set up already on the drives attached to these devices.

Am I able to remove the raid card and expansion card and plug the hard drives directly into the motherboard without Freenas freaking out and losing the data? Or will I have to rebuild the pools all over again?

That depends on if the H310IBM card has got a true JBOD mode or if it presents the drives as single disk "volumes" of some sort with meta information written to the disks. The expansion adapter OTOH should not matter.

On the plus side: you won't lose data hooking up the drives and checking if the pool is visible. Probably best to do a gpart show first. Unless of course the mainboard connectors are hooked up to some proprietary RAID thing that writes information to the disk. But FreeNAS/TrueNAS won't write before you import. And you can import read-only (on the command line) to be safe.
