Hello,

I have FreeNAS running on hot-swappable hardware. FreeNAS has "taken" 2GB of each of my disks to use as system swap.

Q: Can I still pull a drive from my system? How does the system handle its swap being suddenly removed?

Thank you,

Chris

You don't "just pull a drive" from the system. You detach it in accordance with the manual, which disables swap so you can then safely pull the drive. Pulling a drive that hasn't been detached in accordance with the manual can cause the system to become unstable and may damage your pool.

Additionally to that, in normal operation FreeNAS hardly uses the swap space at all. It's just there to prevent system crashes should you ever run out of free memory.
