Hello,

Im trying to remove the BIOS section of my 9300-8i controller. This is in a home NAS setup and takes like 5 minutes to boot, i dont require the boot function of the card and i know that TrueNAS will enable the card when it loads.
Ive scoured the internet on how to do this, sas3flash documention says it possible with following commands but its failing each time.

sas3flash -o -e 5

i assume im doing something wrong, ive tried in shell via GUI, also via the console. all the same exception.

any assistance much appreciated, the reboot time is breaking all my SMB shares and mapped drives, ive had to mitigate this with scripts to map drives etc via CMD. which is not ideal.

I can't imagine why you're rebooting often enough for this to be an issue, but the pragmatic solution is to boot in UEFI mode and disable all the legacy BIOS/CSM cruft. That alone should mitigate your issue and leave you with full functionality, minus the obsolete "press whatever key to enter our custom configuration application".
If you also want to disable the UEFI Option ROM, just disable it for the relevant slot in the system firmware setup menu.

Thanks for the reply, long story short ive been updating components lately of the NAS etc, we have been having wild weather latley with alot of power outages. i know in the future the NAS wont be rebooted as often but it was more for my personal satifaction to get it to work. The solution u mentioned makes perfect sense and kicking myself i didnt try that earlier. i cant remember how i setup Truenas install, will boot in UEFI break the boot drive if wasnt installed as UEFI ?

What @Ericloewe saying is disable the option rom in your system bios. That isn't a TrueNAS thing, it is a system thing. I tend to disable the option rom for all cards except the one I use to boot.
