I have 4 disks (4 x 2TB) in a pool. a pair of mirrors. Raid10 .. would like to re-purpose 2 disks.

I would like to remove a mirror, making the array a simple raid 1 mirror. I am running Scale. Is this possible ?

I have a backup of the data. Thank You

Sure is. Go to the Storage page, and in there click on the gear icon toward the right:

From that menu, choose Status. You'll see a page like this:

Click the kebab menu to the right of the vdev you want to remove:

Select Remove from that menu. Confirm the operation, and you're good to go.

Thank you -- I tried this on the second mirror, and when I attempt to remove either disk, I get this error:

The pool has about 800GB free .. so not sure if I have to unmount anything first ??

How big are the disks in the mirror you're trying to remove? If they're 1 TB or larger, the error is right (though it shouldn't have generated a traceback)--there just isn't enough space on the remaining disks to store the data on the disks you're trying to remove.

If you already have a backup, why not just re-build the pool as you want and put the backed up data in?

Maybe not as elegant. But...?

OK - 4 disks -- each mirror is 2 x 2TB .. I used the detach option for the first disk in mirror #2 (SDC) -- leaving SDD, but unable to get that one detached ...

If the first mirror is still running, why should I need to restore the backup ?? I must be missing something here ...

Because based on the above communication, you haven't been able to get the first mirror running by itself...

You don't "detach" it, you "remove" the entire vdev--as I wrote above. But everything you're writing sounds like you have more data than will fit on one mirrored pair of your disks--where do you expect that data to go when you remove the second mirrored pair?

Thank you to all for the guidance.

Removed lots of duplicate material, esp from the media files, re-built the scale box using 2 pools of simple 2-way mirrors - 1 for documents, the other for media .. restoring files .. Anticipate that the media mirror will need to expand, which will require replacing 2TB with 4TB, resilvering, then replacing the second 2TB HD with a 4TB ..
