Hi all

Please help, I got my hands on a Qlogic2562 fiber card. I can't seem to get it to work. No fiber cables connected at the moment will be direct connected to my server.
I don't see anything if I do a "ifconfig". The system does see the card if i do "lspci -s 02:00.0" any advice "step by step guide"

root@nas01:~ # lspci -s 02:00.0

You do realize that this Qlogic 2562 is Fibre Channel, (which is a storage protocol), not Ethernet?

Thus, ifconfig would not work unless the card and driver supported IPoFC, (Internet Protocol over Fibre Channel). Even then, it would only help to FC SAN attached equipment.

There are rare FC cards that do support convergent networking, (both FC & Ethernet). But generally they are 10Gbps cards, not the 8Gbps card you have shown.

Last, FreeNAS has less support for Fibre Channel attached disks than straight forward OSes, like FreeBSD or Linux. That's because FC disks are more expensive, can be more complicated to setup, (Loop verses full fabric), and much less common for the home or small office environment.
