@Deeda thanks for replying - yes, files are dated 7.Nov.22.
I'm just about to update to U5.3, but I assume (I know, shouldn't assume anything...) that U5.1 isn't the problem, unless you suspect otherwise? I'll readily admit to being a *nix novice; I had to learn the ins and outs of ACLs (and IPv6!) in order to setup TrueNAS to play nicely with my Windows AD clients and replace my old Windows storage server.
So I'm guessing the problem is something I've not done correctly rather than TrueNAS or PVE since several people have posted that the GA installation works as documented by @jhollowe .

Yes, that's the same link I used. I've just downloaded and unzipped again and it's the same files, exact same timestamps.

Incidentally, does the qemu-guest-agent service appear in TN's Services once it is installed?

Also, do you remember whether you ran kldload from the console in PVE or from the TN Shell, or some other way (SSH?) and would it likely make any difference? I saw the segmentation fault when I tried to start the service manually from the console when I was troubleshooting after the scripting didn't work.

I set mine up by SSH'ing directly into the TrueNAS server (not via the TrueNAS Shell). From checking the past commands I ran, those were:

kldload virtio_console.ko
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/qemu-ga

Also make sure you have the permissions set correctly on each file. I use WinSCP. I've attached some screenshots.
