Hi,

I am configuring freenas to setup zfs storage disks. I have installed freenas 9.2.1.8 on our one of the server. I can access freenas webpanel by using private IP. I am trying to add public ip to view the control panel from outside. I have tried to configure the public ip by using some command like "ifconfig igb1 inet xx.xx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.0" , but I can't get the public access to view freenas webpanel. Please advice me to get access publically

Thanks,

You really don't want an Internet-visible IP on your FreeNAS box. You can certainly get it to work, by changing the default route appropriately, but FreeNAS is designed exclusively for use as a NAS, not a general Internet server. Put a firewall in.

That's a very very very bad idea for the security.

Unless the network card is connected to the public internet, there isn't a setting in the world that you can adjust to make it work. You need to configure port forwarding, but as has been strongly advised above, don't do that. Your machine will be found in under 3 minutes, and automated scripts will start trying to break in.

Can I ask what your intention is in trying to get the machine accessible from the internet? Maybe there is a more secure way.
