Hello everyone,

I've recently become interested in freenas for a home server whose main duties will be media storage and serving (to multiple devices) and backup. Based on reading I've done here and on other sites, I've settled on the following components for my build.

1. Motherboard/CPU = Supermicro A1SAI- 2750 -
2. Case = Node 304
3. Hard drives = WD Red 3 TB X 6
4. PSU = Seasonic 450W G or X series
5. RAM = 2 X Kingston valueram 8GB 1600mhz ECC sodimm.

Now I'd welcome some comments and/or suggestions on my build choices especially the PSU and RAM. I'm looking to start ordering parts tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered the microATX version of that board A1SAM? I think it would fit in your case. It doesn't have USB 3.0 which may be more of an issue in future, but it has two rather than one PCIe slots, and uses UDIMMs rather then SODIMMs. You really must use ECC and it may be cheaper and easier to get in UDIMM format.

PS there is a typo in your OP, is it the 2750F or the 2550F?

It's the 2750. I edited the op to correct that

I'm finding it very difficult to find the Samsung and hynix modules that supermicro recommends so looking for alternatives
