I am starting to look at parts to build a home freenas server. I am on a budget of under $350. I am thinking about using these parts to build the system. Please let me know what you think? I already have three 1TB drive.

I am looking to use the system for streaming my movies, storing personal pictures and videos. Plan on using the following plugins: Plex, Owncloud and maybe a couple of others.

"Budget under $350" is tough.

SuperMicro X10SLM+-F, G3220 CPU, 8GB of ECC RAM and you barely squeak by, and that does NOT include a case and PSU, and that's about as cheap as it is possible to go, while also using hardware that the most active people in the community would support.

FreeNAS is a poor choice for badly budget-constrained systems.

SuperMicro X10SLM+-F, G3220 CPU, 8GB of ECC RAM and you barely squeak by, and that does NOT include a case and PSU, and that's about as cheap as it is possible to go, while also using hardware that the most active people in the community would support.

An X10SLL-F is still acceptable, but it's only a few bucks cheaper (some 30 bucks). It's the bare minimum that we can recommend in good faith.

How does the CPU, Case, PS and memory look? I might be able get the X10SLL-F.

Grab the Lenovo Thinkserver TS140 from amazon with the i3 processor and another 4g of ecc ram.

The motherboard won't fit (it's microATX), so that won't work. As for PSU, the cheapest I'd trust is the Corsair CX430, but the Seasonic G-360 is much better.

The processor is fine, but it's an unusual choice - typically we see either the G3220 or the i3 4130 (or better).

The RAM won't do at all, for the X10SLL-F you'll need ECC RAM, for starters. There's a guide for the RAM you'll need - the link is in my sig.

This one has 8GB ram and a 1TB drive, and it is within my budget.

Here is a thread about others experience with the TS140. I'm no expert but I think you would be hard pressed to build a system cheaper than you could buy the Lenovo.

I have freenas 9.3 installed on the old system that I talked about in the below post.

Once I get the new system do I need to re-install Freenas on the USB key in the new system or can I just reboot the system. I have looked through the forums and even tho I have not found a specific post that says it, it looks like just plug in USB into new system and boot the system.

I have updated to the Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 i3-4130 3.4GHz with 16GB ram and no harddrives. The cost after shipping was $349.

I am very happy with the new system and the only problems I have had is permission based problems.
