Primer for SMB sharing to Linux clients?

When I upgraded my NAS server from FreeNAS to TrueNAS 12.0-U2 my linux clients began having permission issues.

Is there a TrueNas Best Practices, or an FAQ, on the proper way to do SMB shares to Linux clients?
