Post deletion after replies

It appears that the original poster of a forum thread can delete it should they chose too, even if it has replies. Can this functionality be switched off? I understand deleting a post if it has no replies, but we have some threads that have 50+ replies of more that could potentially disappear should the OP decide to delete it.

No other forum I know of allow deletion of threads by the OP if it has replies.

Yeah, I agree that this is a problem, especially because moderators aren't informed of it unless someone complains.

In a rather silly twist, if a moderator deletes a post, it gets logged in the mod log. If a user deletes a whole thread, we get nothing.
