Hello,
I have a Windows 8 Machine setup and have been trying to achive 10+ MB/s transfer speed when FreeNAS is in a VM using CIFS. I have tried Hyper-V, Virtual Box and VMware Workstation 7, 8 and 9. All of them have relatively the same transfer speeds (VMware Workstation 9 had the worst at 3 MB/s.)
I can transfer directory to the Windows 8 machine from another Windows pc and achive 50+ MB/s. I installed Windows 7 in a VM and was able to achive 50+ MB/s transferring from that VM to Windows 8. So that leads me to believe it's related to FreeNAS and Windows 8. Using different NIC's does not make a difference.
I have installed Windows 7 on the hardware, setup FreeNAS in VMware workstaiton and can get 20+ MB/s which I feel is acceptible for my application. But would ideally like to use Windows 8 with Hyper V.
This is with the newest release of FreeNAS. Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
Specs:
Windows 8 Ent
Quad Core CPU
32GB Ram
Broadcom NetXtremem II Gige adapter (Dual port)
