What most of you* don't realize is that the minimum system requirements are indeed minimum requirements for the safe and stable operation of your system. They aren't set that way just to piss people off or to make FreeNAS users some sort of elite group; they're set that way because operating with less than the required hardware is known to cause sudden, unpredictable, non-recoverable data loss. To recommend that people run in production on less than the required hardware is irresponsible. If you want to run a NAS on less hardware than FreeNAS requires, there are lots of other NAS software distributions out there--use one of them instead.

And I'd wager that none of the regular posters here are "kids with dad's money".

* "you" being the group of posters who, like yourself, confuse requirements with suggestions, and then get angry and defensive when told otherwise.

Hey guys,

Just a performance update on my minimal setup - everything is working just fine - My content is streamed to ATV3, Samsung Smart TV, PS3 Console, Android TV & 2 x Sony Z Tablets. Have to say I am thrilled that even though i am well below the specs things are working excellently - i love the lan speeds. I am sure later on it will take strain, but for now things are working just fine.

So if you looking to build a FreeNas on a budget or on your PC lying in the garage - go for it, try it and see if it works (taking into account that an upgrade would be the safer bet but if you just want to see if it will work then go for it)

My setup
FreeNas 9.3
Core2Duo 2.8ghz 775 CPU
4GB DDR2 @ 800mhz (2 x 2GB)
775 MOBO (Only has 2 x memory slots)
2 x 2TB Hard Drives
8GB Boot USB Drive
1 x EXT 4TB USB drive (for backups)
That's weird. Last time I checked, I was 34 and earning my own damn money, you know since I have a family to take care of.

Your comment was completely rude and uncalled for.

The requirements are there for a reason and you will find out why one day.
