Plex media server noob question

Hi there,
Quick question, as I am designing my new NAS I came across the Plex Media Server plugin. I have used XBMC for many years and have always accessed the shares directly. I am trying to understand the advantage of using Plex over going to the share directly. Can someone please explain me the advantages? I can see this being an advantage when you have multiple players, but is there anything else?

You should go check out the Plex website and forum as your question isn't related to supporting the plugin but is more about the application itself. (www.plexapp.com)
