Dear All,

Please Help, I have a Dell poweredge R720XD,

2x SSD which run True nas
8x hard disk which have my data on it.

I just use it for storage and use another PC to run Plex which has a network drive to my truenas server to pull the data from it.

Yesturday my Plex server stopped working so I started to investigate. I notices the mapped drive wasnt working so I restarted my Truenas server. Attached is the issue I got and it is not booting for me to access the Truenas logon screens. I have 2x ssd as a redundancy so I cant believe both SSD have gone faulty.

Its been a very long time since I installed the system. I originally had freenas and then updated it to truenas. I have Old saved config files which were from 02/06/2000 which is when I had freenas on it. Not sure if I have the config files from after I upgraded from freenas to truenas.

Please can someone help and guide me what to do as I really cant remember how I loaded the system as it was a very long time ago.

Thank you in advanced.

Try booting with one or the other SSD disconnected.

YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!!!

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW GREATFUL I AM. IT IS WORKING.

BEFORE I RESTART I WILL BACK UP THE DATA HOWEVER IS THERE ANY OTHER FILES OR CONFIG FILES I CAN BACK UP FROM TRUENAS?

I see save configuration and there's a option export secret seed, what is that?

I also see a resilvering going on 63%, is that normal?

I also see

Pool Data state is DEGRADED: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will continue to function, possibly in a degraded state.
The following devices are not healthy:
  • Disk SEAGATE ST6000NM0034 Z4D2WVRC is DEGRADED
  • Disk SEAGATE ST6000NM0034 Z4D1V9MR is DEGRADED

2023-08-28 13:14:03 (Europe/London)

does that mean 2 disks are failing?

Careful here : depending of the pool's design, you may need to replace these drives one at a time. Are you using mirrors ? Raid-Z1 ? Raid-Z2 ? Raid-Z3 ?

It also seems that you have a failed boot ssd to investigate/replace.

It would be safer.

Also, be sure to take a backup of your entire config should you end up with more trouble and need to re-install. In that case, with a complete config backup, it will be easy and pain-free.

How do you do this?

Is this from system>general then click save config?

I did both with and without seed option ticked

Also my raid can take 12 drives, im just using 8, Shall i install the new drive in a new slot, then import them and then remove the bad drive?

Im currently on version TrueNAS-12.0-U8.1

What do you mean your "raid" can take 12 drives? Are you using a RAID controller / software (beyond ZFS)?

Yes have a dell rd720xd however I think it passes all drives to Truenas as in the dell software is doesn't show or report the drives.

I think I remember I had to flash the raid bios for it to talk directly to truenas. This was a long time ago so I might be just talking a load of momo gumbo but I'm sure I did the above.

Like I said I have spare drive slots to use.

I think Dell R720XD can come with either H310 or H710 controller. The H310 is a regular HBA while the H710 is a RAID controller. Not sure which one OP has.
