I have a dataset called Network_HDD that I have given user john full control permission to.

I created a SMB share to that dataset and he can access that from Windows Explorer. I created another SMB share to a child folder (not a child dataset) that is found within the Network_HDD dataset.

I added another user, sam, to that SMB share and gave full control.

When sam tries to access the share, he can access the server and see the folder, but when he clicks on it, he receives "Network Error" message that "Windows cannot access \\10.168.4.200\Media."

What am I missing in my understanding of permissions?

BTW, sam is a member of media_access group which has full control "/mnt/tank/Network_HDD/Media"

I found my solution. I needed to set "traverse" permission on parent folder for media_access group. Once done, access worked on child folder as expected.
