I have managed to download and install freenas on an old pc (usb stick). Connection on router ok and reachable via ip. HD's attached and configured and i used afp to write from my mac.
I would like to use it with my AppleTV, but when writing a movie it takes hours.
Won't get much performance i guess when watching.
What is the best setup to improve performance?

It could be multiple things:

1. What drives are you using? How are they formatted?
2. What speed is your network?
3. What type of LAN cables are you using?
4. What filesystem are you using?
5. how much RAM does the old PC have?
6. What does the perfomance graphs say in the GUI?
