I'm considering combining all my flash (VM storage) and spinners (media storage) into a single FreeNAS box. I'd go with 2 pools (one for flash, one for spinners) as I don't want to risk the failure of either vdev(s) taking out all data. I'm sure one of the most annoying things is when users come on this forum and complain about the performance of their FreeNAS servers not meeting their expectations. So for the sake of trying to avoid that situation, I'm here to have my expectations set realistically.

Given the following hardware and proposed configuration, what kind of read/write speeds can I expect from each pool.

Server Hardware:

Xeon D-1518 (4-core/8-thread) w/onboard LSI2116 HBA
64GB DDR4 RAM
Dual 10Gb NICs, Dual 1Gb NICs

Pool #1: RAID10

Hitachi HUSSL400 400GB SAS SSDs (x4)
  • Sequential Read (up to) - 516 MB/s
  • Sequential Write (up to) - 458 MB/s
  • 4KB Random Write - 21000 IOPS
  • 4KB Random Read - 41000 IOPS
Intel S3500 800GB SATA SSDs (x4)
  • Sequential Read (up to) - 500 MB/s
  • Sequential Write (up to) - 450 MB/s
  • Random Read (100% Span) - 75000 IOPS
  • Random Write (100% Span) - 11500 IOPS
Pool #2: RAIDz2

WD Gold 10TB (x4)
  • Data Transfer Rate (up to ) - 250 MB/s

Since you are asking a performance question I think you also need to provide the expected use case for this system. It's not all just IOPS. Also which NIC's are you going to use? Is the 1G okay or do you need to use the 10G for some users? But the use case is likely the most important thing first.
