PERC H800i - is it that bad?

I know the PERC H800i is unable to be flashed into an IT Mode.
However, I have a T620 with 12 bays of storage filled with 3 or 4 TB Drives and have been lucky enough to get a couple MD1200 storage arrays and a PERC H800i card for a good price of $0.
I have the H710p running the built in bays perfectly fine with ZFS, however would like to expand the media library onto the MD1200s but obviously can't include ZFS due to the H800i not being able to JBOD passthrough. Is it alright to make a few RAID Arrays with disc failure on the H800i and simply add them like that, or is there another option?
I haven't spent money of my equipment and would rather keep it that way.

Thanks,
Mazkarth

The following was written for people in your situation:

The H800i is indeed able to do "JBOD passthrough", but that isn't what you need. You need something that talks to the disks reliably and correctly under FreeBSD, able to sustain crushing I/O loads without falling over. The list of things that do this correctly is relatively short.
