Use Case: Photography Backup / Archive (with the need to access the archives somewhat frequently). Currently, archives are stored on individual external hard drives in a closet. The user would like to have onsite, offsite and cloud backups. This system would be sitting at the primary office and use crash plan to copy data to the sister system offsite and to the cloud. Bandwidth issues have been addressed.

Main System / Sister System Build:
Case: Fractal Node 304 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352027
HDD: WD Red 4TB, x4, RAIDZ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236599
PSU: SeaSonic, 360W, 80 Gold - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151117
MD/CPU: ASRock C2550D4I- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157419
BOOT: ADATA S102 Pro 16GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211572
RAM: Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148770
BOOT Adapter: USB A Female to USB Motherboard 4 Pin - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200294

This is my 3rd FreeNAS build, but my first build for another person. I would like to have it peer reviewed for any inaccuracies.

I will be using the Intel controller SATA ports. Using RAIDZ (NOT RAIDZ2) because the data will by copied to multiple sites and the cost/benefit didn't weigh out for Z2.

Thank you for your review.

Use ZFS replication to offsite location instead of crashplan. If you choose to expose the SSH server rather than VPN, then make sure you've appropriately secured it (key-based authentication, setting "AllowUsers" to allow only specific users, etc.).

I suppose that since you went right for the security and replication tasks, the hardware is OK?

I do appreciate the feedback on the replication method as well!

6 disks for raidz2 please. If you pick 3TB disks instead, it's even cheaper by ~30$ for the same usable capacity.

Also I'd rather use the Sandisk USB sticks or SATA DOMs.

Agreed, I wouldn't trust ADATA anything. Where I used to work, we had a batch of ADATA SDHC cards, I think 30+ of them that we installed in blade servers as boot media - over 75% of them died within a month. ADATA is crap, do not use.
