Why not check for yourself using the link I provided above?

I did, there have been no updates since it was created, that's why I was asking.

That's because it hasn't been updated :(

Then we wait with bated breath. Been holding off on using Owncloud until the update, I really want to start moving away from depending on providers for my cloud storage. I just prefer to have control over my data.

The NSA is now adding you to their list of shadowy suspicious characters who do not blindly hand over their data...

It would nice if a developer would comment on about how long before we see the update to Owncloud 6. Or at least what the plans are for this update, because "The future" is a very broad term to use which could mean a year from now. The bug report has been updated 5 days ago requesting an update, with no response.

It isn't clear to me that the developers want to undertake responsibility for plugins, or that enhancements requested through the bug reporting system will necessarily be taken care of in a rapid fashion...

Perhaps if you included a link to your updated Owncloud 6 plugin... the joy of plugins is that anyone can make them.

@raidflex, You should realize that its exactly how jgreco said. They have no commitment to promising responses to questions in the bug reporting system. If you want a fast answer you can usually drop into IRC and ask there. Other than that, you are pretty much at the mercy of "the system" to get things done.

iXsystems is in the business of making money. Unless there's some monetary gain for them, they really have no reason to spend money on their plugins. There's nothing stopping you from making your own pbi though.

I do understand what you are saying, but I still think a simple response is not asking too much.

By that logic, the developers should also respond to all the posts made on this forum. That's not asking too much ... right?

Replying to the bug report is what I am referring to, not the post. And I think if the bug report has been screened then an ETA should be set at that point.

FreeNAS' projected tickets to close are basically limited to "the next point release", "the next major release", and "the future". That's it. So if it's not on the drawing board for 9.2.1 or 9.3(if that's what they call it), then it'll be "someday after that".

Plugins are their own beast too. They don't require any FreeNAS release so they sometimes come without warning. For all we know the plugin will be updated in 2 hours.

And from the plugin guy at iX "no way its going to happen in less than 3 weeks". So there it is. Take it or leave it.

Bug report, forum post, what's the difference? The point is that your attitude is that they owe you something, and not just a response, but when they're actually going to do some work that you want done. They don't owe you either of those things. This is free software. You don't like it, make it better yourself. Or if you want them to do it, PAY them - if they're willing to work on that basis. Doesn't have to be lots of money, lots of developers can be influenced by a case of beer magically appearing.

Where did I ever say I demanded that the plugin be finished? I did not know asking for a small bit of information is "owing" me something.... I was not expecting an exact date when the plugin would be finished, it was a simple question. Someone could have updated the bug report in response"we are working on this or no we are not at this time and it may be months or weeks before it is updated."

I recommended you run owncloud not using the plugins system.. the plugins use Apache + modphp + sqlite

I made a guide on installing it in a jail with nginx+phpfpm+mysql before. I'll think about updating it soon if theres demand for it.

Show me where I said you said that. What I SAID was that your attitude is that they owe you a response, AND that they owe you a delivery date for the plugin.

I don't see that as an unreasonable conclusion given you said:

Replying to the bug report is what I am referring to, not the post. And I think if the bug report has been screened then an ETA should be set at that point.

Now, again, feel free to contribute patches, or you could even volunteer to act as coordinator of plugin delivery dates or something ... but basically lots of people involved in the free software arena will see it as somewhat offensive when you start expecting stuff.

I guess one could also update the ownCloud software manually inside the PBI jail by following these instructions.. I managed to do but didn't like OC 6 that much. But hey , that's just me! (I missed the music streaming capability and the syntax highlighting capability of the older versions). So I went back and reinstalled the 5.10 version. OC6 changes the db schema so the process is not exactly reversible.
