i have a server with 4 hard drives each 4 tb in size but had a separate laptop hdd for truenas to run on. that hdd recently died. i did not have any warning that this drive was going to fail so i have not set up any of the pools to be transferred to a new OS. will this be a problem or will i just be able to import existing pools once the new hdd is installed and has an OS on it?

Do you have a backup of your configuration file?

I just recently upgraded my older laptop 2.5 drive that had my boot pool on it to an SSD.
I was, however getting an error message about the boot pool scrub detecting bad sectors.
Thankfully it was a 750GB drive with ONLY the 1.5GB boot installed to it, nothing else.
I saved my Config file, and a DB file, I fresh installed TrueNAS and imported my config file, No Issues.

You can also retrieve the most recent config under /var/db/system/configs-XXXXXXXX/

A config file is generated daily.

its a couple of months old but yes i do
Get your new boot device and install TrueNAS. Once it's up and running upload your config, reboot and you'll be back in business.
