Hello,
I wanted machine as NAS with stable OS primary and secondary as homelab. I was thinking about it a lot, I chose finaly HP Proliant DL380e Gen8.
Bought configuration:
2* 8-Core Intel E5-2450L 1.80 GHz | 96 GB | 14* LFF | P420 | iLO4 | 4* 1Gb Ethernet (Intel I350)
1 x HP Adapter 331T 4-port Gigabit Ethernet PCI-E 649871-001 647592-001 647594-B21
1 x HP Smart Array P420 1 GB FBWC
There was integrated Smart Array B120i, I put it in AHCI mode and connected two Patriot 128GB SATA SSD for TrueNAS OS.
I switched Smart Array P420 in HBA mode, I connected two WD Ultrastar 8TB SATA HDD (I would like to mirror it) and Intel SSD D3-S4610 Series 240 GB (I planned it to use for slog) and Intel SSD D3-S4610 Series 480 GB (I planned it to use for l2arc), TrueNAS suggestion was to use only WD Ultrastar for pool (no slog, no l2arc).

I would like to ask you what do you think I should configure my pool in described situation, should I use slog? Should I use l2arc?
If I would like to add other SATA HDD as pool (like WD Ultrastar) in future what would be best configuration (slog/l2arc)?
If I would like to add other SATA SSD as pool in future what would be best configuration (slog/l2arc)?
I found thread on this forum (hp-dl380p-gen-8-crashing-under-i-o-load.92052) where is not recommended to use P420 with TrueNAS Core. Will I have such problems too? What Smart Array (controller) should I use if I don't want to loose LLF positions? Should I rather use another OS (for example Red Hat Linux/Debian Linux) and make own configuration as I would feel?

Thank you.
