I want to build a FreeNAS box and I was thinking about the following hardware components:

Case: Fractal Design Define R3 - Black Pearl
Mainboard: Super Micro X8SIL-F, Sockel 1156, mATX
RAM: 4 x Kingston ValueRAM ECC 4GB, DDR3-1333, CL9, ECC unbuffered

I am not shure on what power supply to get. How much power do I need if i want to use up to 10 HDs in the future? An important criteria for the power supply is, that it should be as silent as possible. Do you guys have a suggestion and what do you think of the other hardware i selected?

I just realised that the Intel Pentium G620 does not fit on the chosen mainboard. I am now thinking about getting a Intel Core i3 550. Would that be a good choice?

After some more searching I found the power supply SilverStone ST50NF (fan-less) 500W. Would that be enough?

SATA drives are around 7w ea. I would suspect that if you had a 450w PSU, that it would be sufficient.

The idea of silent, well, if you're cooling 10 disks properly, I don't think the PSU will be what you hear.
