I couldn't get openvpn to update resolv.conf. No matter how I tried. But then I made a script which I start from openvpn.conf with the up- and down- which on -up copy vpn-dns ip:s to resolve.conf and on -down copy Non-DNS ip:s to resolve.conf. I havn't read about this solution on the net but it works. But I'm no security expert, is this a good idea?

I need dns servers to get a connection to my vpn provider, and when I get connection I switch to their dns server (10.8.0.1).

I'm just curious if the original method you were you trying to use to update resolv.conf involved trying to install openresolv in your jail? I'm asking because I want to move my existing OpenVPN server from a separate computer to my FreeNAS and just started doing research. My first thought was to just run it in a VirtualBox instance, but if it can securely run in jail, great! Still learning here... Thanks!
