Offsite replication

I am using a FreeNAS box as a backup destination, and would like to have this replicated to an offsite location for redunancy. As far as I can see this can be done with ZFS replication, however how does this work? I don't want to be transfering several hundred gigs every night over a VPN, so does replication just copy the recent changes?

My backup software keeps two weeks of the most recent changes with the oldest being a full backup. If this is replicated via ZFS, how would it work?

i don't know how the underpinnings of the FreeNAS implementation are but zfs in general does support incremental backups.

be advised it could be a more recent version of zfs than FreeNAS uses.
