First of all, I m a first time user. first setup.
Second. I m a IT Helpdesk engineer so i should be able to provide the info you need.

I have setup the Freenas on my old machine after buying a new PC running Windows 8.

After completing the setup trough the GUI i tried to map the drive to my W8 machine and got the message that not device with this name was found on the network.

after a lot of troubleshooting i decided to go on a different machine and try the same.
It turns out i can find it on all other devices (W7) but not on the W8

I have to admit. Setting up network shares with windows 8 has been a pain ever since i bought the damn thing.

If you require any info about my setup i ll be happy to provide it. since i m new. telling me what menu to find it in could be usefull:)
thanks in advance for the help

I'd say this is a Windows 8 problem and not a FreeNAS problem. So I'm really not sure how we're supposed to help you...

You'll also find that for the most part, none of the advanced users run Windows 8. I don't even run it and I won't pay for it because I think it's total crap. So unless someone plans to buy me a copy of Windows 8 to help troubleshoot a problem... good luck. :P

Net use x: \\ip-address\sharename

If it wasn't for Server 2012 Core I'd never touch Windows 8. Even as it stands I only run it as a VM jumpbox on a cluster at work.

Your 8 license should permit you to use Windows 7 as long as it isn't OEM.

Gpsguy's suggestion should work though.

i'm running windows 8 pro and just go directly to the shares and haven't bothered mapping any drives - this seems to work fine for transferring data
