Hey Guys,
i did install FreeNAS on a Virtual Machine today.
After installing i followed
this tutorial to install Plex Media Server Plugin.
It failed after download.
So i just tried to install another plugin and it failed again directly after download :(
Thanks in advance for your help.

VMs are cool for testing, but they can introduce their own problems because of the added complexity of having virtualization. What error in particular are you getting? I know when I play with FreeNAS in a VM I have to disable my firewall and enable bridge mode for the NIC on the VM if the host is Windows. If you are on Linux, it just works. Anything less makes FreeNAS useless for thorough experimenting and testing.

The first thing I'd do is provide some info on what you are doing. Error messages would be useful. Screenshots may be useful too. But, what you are explaining as the problem sounds almost exactly like what I've seen myself in a VM on a Windows host.

If I remember correctly the manual recommends some low amount of RAM for a VM for testing. If you plan to do plugins I'd set up your VM for 6GB of RAM(or more) just to make sure your problems aren't related to low RAM.

Hey,
first of all, thanks for your fast help.

I'm planning to create a little FreeNAS server and i wanted to test in a vm how to configure things and get familiar with FreeNAS.
I'm really new to FreeNAS and FreeBSD so i just wanted to get sure anything works before i spend money for some hardware.
I'm using VMWare player on a Windows machine.
I did try the solutions you offered in your preview post nothing of them helped.

Error Message is the following:

"Error: http://cdn.freenas.org/9.2.0/RELEASE/x64/jails/freenas-pluginjail-9.2-RELEASE.tgz: Not Found ERROR: Failed extracting: http://cdn.freenas.org/9.2.0/RELEASE/x64/jails/freenas-pluginjail-9.2-RELEASE.tgz cannot open 'yourvolume/pluginjails/.warden-template-pluginjail': dataset does not..."

Can't see the complete error message is there any log where i am able to see it?

I know that error.

So FreeNAS downloads the applicable .tgz file from the FreeNAS servers to your machine, extracts that .tgz file, then creates a dataset for the template it extracts. Either the file isn't being downloaded, isn't extracting properly, or the template isn't being created. Basically anything that could cause those 3 situations is possible.

Unfortunately, I'm not much use aside from that because there's so many scenarios that could cause those situations that I can't even begin to give you a list. That error *usually* happens when people do things they aren't supposed to do. Is your jail location set properly in the WebGUI? Does that location actually exist?

Just wondering, what was your old VM settings versus the new? In particular did you change the quantity of RAM?
