Hi All

I have 1600GB of Windows servers that I am backing up via VEEAM Enterprise 11.1 to a NFS v3 data store. My VEEAM server is a virutal server and the performance was good but after just 1 backup of 500GB I have 4% fragmentation. The TrueNAS 12.0 u8 server has 192gb of ram, 48 drives in a mirror config with 10gb networking.

Is 4% fragmentation OK?

Thanks,
Joe

Are you using sync=always?
  • If yes a SLOG will help with write speed and reduce fragmentation.
  • If no, are you using automated backup checking (Veeam SureBackup)?
    • If no, should you be using sync=always?
You might be better off with a different pool config (8X6Z2?) if you are limited to a maximum network bandwidth of 10Gb. Wont help with fragmentation though.
