Newbie Ironwolf 16TB drives and LSI 9300-8i

I'm building a NAS for 8K 360 video storage and processing. I'm coming from the windows world. I expected to buy a new 9300-8i, hook it to my drive and just have it work having been babied by PnP for so long. Well, when I boot the machine I expect the drive to show up in the controller card but I just don't see it. I plugged the card into my Windows machine to see if that made the troubleshooting any easier. As you might suspect it did not. I have only found the info to make the situation more confusing.

My question is will my configuration work (LSI 9300-8i + Seagate 16 TB ironwolf drives)? If so how do I make it work?

Did you buy an LSI 9300-8i already flashed to IT mode, or did it come with the original HBA firmware?

I thought the 9300-8i only came in IT mode, I guess I thought because it didn't support RAID it was acceptable, I just bought one so I will have to do more reading then.
