Hi all,
First time post here!

I am upgrading a 6-year old media server with a whole new system but am having issues with installation and maintaining boot.

Equipment (All new)
  • ASUS Z590-A Prime
  • Intel Core i7-11700K Rocket Lake 3.6GHz Eight-Core LGA 1200
  • Corsair Vengeance 2 x 16GB DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz
  • Storage - 4 x 12TB WD HDD, 2 x Samsung SSD NVMe
  • Boot Drive - Silicon Power 128GB NVMe M.2

I will start with where I am at. I have successfully installed TrueNAS Core 13.0-U2 through USB methods. I have to use a discrete graphics card to be able to enable CSM on my motherboard which allows me to properly boot the installation via USB. Once the installation successfully installs to my boot SSD, I remove the installation USB, remove the graphics card, unplug mouse and keyboard. I restart my system and it successfully boots and lists my web interface address.

Now after I have gone into the web GUI and added and imported my users/shares/jails/pools everything is working as it should. When I restart my system however, my truenas boot stalls and gets stuck at this screen (sometimes after 1 restart, sometimes after 2 restarts). I have not gone into UEFI BIOS and changed anything after installation (so whats changing? why stop booting?).

I have installed the truenas boot onto different SSDs into different M.2 ports (same results). Some areas I know may be problematic are the Intel I225-V 2.5Gb ethernet and the CSM which is greyed out unless graphics card is installed.

Any help on why TrueNAS stops booting after it already successfully works until restart?

Cheers and thank you!
