Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I have installed a fresh copy of FreeNAS and installed the CrashPlan plugin, which is version 3.6.3. The client version of the app that I have is 4.5.0 for OSX, and clearly have not been able to connect headless with the version mismatch, I keep getting a "Crashplan has disconnected from the engine" error when trying to log in with my credentials. So I acquired the v3.6.3 client for OSX from Code42 and installed it, but it won't run, I get an error immediately when I try to run the App "CrashPlan app failed to start" or something, likely because I'm all the way up to El Capitan. The server has been happily banging away doing absolutely nothing because I haven't been able to yet authenticate with my credentials, and doesn't want to upgrade automatically for the same reason. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to force the server to upgrade itself?

My log file is filled with messages that look like this:

[01.03.16 09:14:33.073 WARN BWQ-Security::-0_723 de42.messaging.security.SecurityProvider] SP:: GeneralSecurityException: finalizeExchange, remote client likely has an invalid PbK. Closing session. Session[id=723237046650404865, closed=false, isLocal=true, lat=2016-01-03T09:14:33:038, lrt=2016-01-03T09:14:33:038, lwt=2016-01-03T09:14:33:035, #pending=0, enqueued=false, local=192.168.1.2:4242, remote=192.168.1.66:63416, usingProtoHeaders=true, usingEncryptedHeaders=false, LAN], javax.crypto.BadPaddingException: Data must start with zero

Regards,

Eric

Thanks for suggesting these articles. I have read through them all, but I'm not seeing that they deal with my situation directly. My install is still stuck on 3.6.3, and I can't seem to run a client less than 4.5.0. My understanding of these threads is that at some point, you have to be able to successfully authenticate in order for the upgrade to start up, which I haven't been able to do. I have tried installing client versions 3.6.3, 4.3.0, and 4.5.0. The only one that runs is 4.5.0. Is there some more specific suggestions you could make? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem. I even tried to use an older client, but it automatically updates.
My current problem entails the GUI engine crashing or disconnecting from backup engine. I see in the terminal window that I am using to route
```ssh -L 4200:127.0.0.1:4243 crashplan@192.168.1.103 -N -v -v```
I cannot get the remote crashplan plugin to update...not sure what to do.
I am running FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512121950 and connecting to it using Linux.
The Crashplan Plugin is: 3.6.3_1
Okay. I was able to download and install 4.3 client and connect to the 3.6.3 Crashplan plugin. It is currently backing up,but i have heard it makes it upgrade, so I am keeping an eye on it for now.
I made progress, but I feel dirty, lol. I created a Windows VM in VirtualBox, acquired the CP 3.6.3 client for Windows from Code42, installed Putty, started port forwarding and started up the CP client. It connected, it's in the progress of synchronizing. I'm hoping that now that I've been able to successfully authenticate, it'll do a server upgrade to 4.5 and then I can get back to using my MacBook client. Will keep the thread posted. There has to be an easier way.
