Hi am looking to build a freenas box for use with testing isci, nfs, and cifs shares here is my parts list so far:

ASrock c226 ws
with kingston eec ram 16gb
Intel g3258 3.0ghz dual core EEC capable
i already have a power supply and case and a bunch of disks

my question is is that acceptable ?

and can anyone recommend a 4 port raid card ? this will be used in JBOD mode

as i want to make 3 pools in raid 10 and then 1 in a mirror 2 for isci 1 for cifs shares and 1 for nfs (ISO's)

Any help and advice would be helpful i live in uk, so if recommending can you show the uk site please.

Regards

Kingston ram has pretty well been shunned but to say the least you should find something on the board's certified hardware list.

If you are looking for parts I would suggest reading this thread https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/hardware-recommendations-read-this-first.23069/

As far as using a bunch of disks you already have there is no way to guess if they will do what is needed. As far as raid 10 it does not exist in FreeNAS so you could start reading a bit on how ZFS works here https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...ning-vdev-zpool-zil-and-l2arc-for-noobs.7775/

Once you get through some of the basics you will probably have other questions and want to make changes to what you are thinking. Read the stickies and a lot of people have good information in their signatures.
