Total newb
I have a drive (da17) in a 12 disk Z3 array that is sending me a email every couple of weeks (New alerts:* Device: /dev/da17, Self-Test Log error count increased from 13 to 14.) so I purchased a new drive to make as a hot spare but I can't do anything with the new drive (da18)
The new drive shows as 0B capacity
Below is what I have tried
Disk DA18 shows 0B and is not in any pools

If I try to wipe the disk I get

If I try a fdisk /dev/da18 I get

fdisk: can’t get the parameters on /dev/da18

fdisk: cannot open disk /dev/da18: no such file or directory

Can someone please give me a suggestion on where to go next or is it a dead new drive
Ps is there a way to copy text from the shell tried ctrl+insert ctrl+c without any luck

Thanks
Mick

Post the output of zpool status in code tags.

Could not find code tag so have put a attachment with output
the disk is not in a pool and did not show up in the zpool status

There's something wrong either with the cable/port or with the onboard controller of da18.

It would be interesting to see the output from smartctl -a /dev/da17 as it seems you have signs of failure coming there.

code smartctl -a dev/da17 and da18 is attached
Still having problems with code tags
da17 is sending me emails
That is why I got the new drive
Drives are in a netapp ds4246 shelf
Server is a IBM x3650 m3 96 gb ram 2 processors (have more memory on its way to me)
I have moved the drives to other locations in the shelf but that makes no difference
They even keep the same name da17 and da18 when moved (i can see the serial numbers in the truenas web interface under storage disks
I have also put the da18 drive in the da17 slot and it shows as da18 0B capacity
I can't do anything with da18 while it shows 0B capacity
When this happens with proxmox I had to fdisk the drive then P for partition, then D for delete, then W for write
I can't fdisk da18 also attached
