I have a freenas mini, that I have running plex (in a jail).
95% of the time it works fine, but occasionally seemingly out of the blue plex complains that the network is to slow and requests changing the content quality. If I wait a little while it seems to go back to working fine for a while longer an then eventually complains again. I look at the freenas reporting for network and the interface seems to be humming along for a while and then the tx rate drops to zero at the time that plex complained about the network speed. My initial thought is the network card is going bad.
Is there any diagnostics that I can run to help determine exactly what is wrong?

Thanks for your time,

iperf is the standard tool for this. Try running it as a server on the FreeNAS and as a client on your PC.

Also, if the network itself is busy for other reasons, this is what you would expect to see. Could the LAN be busy/at capacity at the times you're having trouble? The FreeNAS Mini has top of the line Intel NICs. They are unlikely (not impossible, but unlikely) to be the problem.
