Corral? So they kill the cow and didn't know what to do with the corral, so used the name.

Sorry, guys. I'm bad with name, but why not FreeNAS 10? Ok ... Call it BFNAE for Best Free Nas Appliance Ever or something :(

If I may be so bold as to provide an answer (or at least paraphrase what JKH has already said), one of the primary reasons for changing the naming scheme and more specifically, not calling it FreeNAS 10, is that the version numbers no longer made as much sense as they once did. The issue is explained in detail at the start of the latest State of the Union video, which can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4IBKUmC5ns

The name change isn't simply for the sake of clarity though. Corral is a different beast to FreeNAS 9.x and everything that came before it. It has entirely new middleware along with some significant new technologies. Again, for a more detailed explanation, I'll direct you toward this thread - https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...-destination-but-heralds-new-beginning.51504/

@CompuGlobalHyperMegaNet,

Thanks for your reply. I (or any one else other than ix) has the right to impose anything here, so just venting.

I had several VW bugs: 1967, 1973, 1982. They were VW bugs :) The reasoning that FreeNAS version # followed FreeBSD version # and that made got off sync is as good as any. If this can't be used and FreeNAS is now a 21st century application, why not FreeNAS 21?

In the other hand I had a 1985 Audi 5000: Five cylinder engine great car and a 1984 Audi 4000, a four cylinder engine. Later a 1992 Audi 100 with a six cylinder engine, so there was no logic there.

Naming things does not require logic, but again, just didn't like the name. Still a 21st century application and my test server is running it since yesterday.
