Hi
I am planing to build custom NAS that is nvme based, has 10gbe.
I own Qnap ts-332x and I am planing and upgrade however qnap option with nvme and 10gbe are extremly expensive. Cheapest build I found is around 1100 usd.

I have expirience in building my own PC but building small and power efficient nas requires bigger level of expertise so I ask for build advice.

I want to install true nas scale on it.

Basic things that I want:
- ability to put in 3x 2tb nvme drives in raid 5 with CPU-PCI lanes that can accualy use most of the performance of 3GB/s nvme.
- 1x 10gbe (can be spf+ or Cat 6) and 1x 1gbe.(one for internet and other to connect to PC)
- relatively low power consumpiton like 30W if possible.
- small factor case. I am not sure if I want ssd only setup so it can really small or maybe leave place for 2-3 bays and GPU in the future. Open to proposition.

Nice to have:
- CPU that could handle AV1 transcoding.
- PCI port to put in GPU if transcoding cant be achived on CPU or to expand storage ect.

I‘m building something similar:

Asrock X470D4U with Ryzen 2700X (I could go up to 5950X)
32GB ECC RAM
Asus Hyper M.2 with 4x M.2 SSD
10GbE PCIe NIC

Don’t use hardware RAID5, but go for ZFS RAIDZ1 - use ECC RAM

Nice SFF case: Intertech IM-1 Pocket (or OEM knockoff) - max mATX with 20L

@Kraszer - I'd suggest reading up on ZFS. Some new users of ZFS design their computers in, let us say, a less than ideal manor.

Wont 2700x consume a lot fo power to run? I am looking for slower CPU and probably 8gb of ram.
