I will build this server.

1 X10SLM+-LN4F-B Xeon H3-Skt Serverkort uATX Intel C224, 4x i210AT GbE BULK

1 BX80646E31220V3 Intel Xeon E3-1220v3 3.1/3.5GHz QuadCore no HT, 8MB, 80W TDP

4 M391B1G73QH0-YK0 Samsung 8GB DDR3L ECC 1600MHz 1.35V UDIMM

Seasonic Sea Sonic G Series 450 450Watt 80 PLUS Gold
4x 3TB WD Red 7200rpm 64MB
boot SSD intel 530

I don't think I will need more storage than 6TB, 12TB raidz2. I need the server to personal files, within my household. So security felt very important. I don't have 6TB of very important files but desided I had to have som fun as well and will play around with plex, cloudbased solutions etc, mostly for fun. Anyway, if I need more storage (don't think so but you never know) my plan is to replace disks with bigger ones, or/if need more space add SATA expansioncard.

The SSD is because it was cheap, in american dollars 30$, and I don't need all 6 SATA ports, and I'm not sure for how I will use this server yet. And the fact I've been reading on upcoming 9.3 and the new storagebase. SATA DOMS I could buy but they were more expansive than SSD and also most of the ones I found I belive blocked other SATA ports. It's kind of playing around mixed with need for secure storage. So will have one big secure storage and then modify my software solution around it.

Have I made any obvious misstakes?

Well, I have already blown away my budget for a long time buying this. Actually I took the 1220 because it was the cheapest xeon. The E3 v2s are more expansive here and harder to find boards Been looking at avoton but it's to expensive I think, atleast were I live xeons are cheaper. So I wanted a xeon, and I have always wanted a server that actually is a real server. But it is digging a deep black hole in my wallet. Can't find any E3.1230v3 only v2. And it is around 35% more expansive than 1220v3 were I buy. Can't really justify the price because I think even the 1220 has more power than I need for the important stuff I will use my server for, but for playing around ofcourse it would be more fun with more power, but I have to try to set a limit for my hobbies.

Total buildcost is somewere around 1400$ + taxes, don't know if thats a good price or bad.

Hmm, I looked at listes from my supplier, they have this E3.1231v3 which I think is the new 1230? But it's the same price as 1230, + 35% from 1220.

Well, it's up to you. You might not see any benefit at all in your workload. In fact, you might even be just fine with an i3 (should support 2-3 plex streams fine).

Any reason why you're going with the -LN4F? What do you plan to do with four GbE adapters?

You get an extra 100MHz base clock. Probably not worth it. You'd also need the 2.0 BIOS, which might not be on all new motherboards yet.

I thought it would be fun playing around with 4 adapters, I have lots of not so great networking stuff laying around , and it was cheaper than slm and the ln4f was in stock. I will use this setup for storage but also for experimenting, learning and having fun.

Sure, that's perfectly reasonable.
It's just an X10SLM+-F with some PCI-e lanes redirected to two extra i210s, so if it's cheaper and you are okay with losing a PCI-e slot, it's a good choice.
