I've seen similar behavior where resizing and pruning works just fine.

You can also see normal shares that you have already mounted, directly pickable in the TM browser box if you enter the following line in the Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

which does exactly what it looks like it does.

I know I'm replying to an old thread, but using

TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes

could result in data loss and is deprecated. See:

Thanks for your input.

I found that backing up Time Machine (TM) to FreeNAS wasn't very reliable, even if I used just the single, TM sharepoint.

I'm using CrashPlan running on an iMac and with FreeNAS mounted to it as a regular Apple File Protocol (AFP) sharepoint. It is rock solid.

I haven't experienced any more problems using the defaults write mod and FreeNAS than I have backing up to another Mac.
