Moving drives from Synology to TrueNAS

I am in the process of decommissioning a Synology NAS and I want to reuse the drives in a TrueNAS installation. My question is, should I format the drives while I still have them in the Synology? Synology has a secure erase function so I could potentially do this on each drive before removing.

Or should I wait and do the formatting once I install them in the TrueNAS system? I am just not sure what TrueNAS will do if it thinks it sees existing data on the drives?
