1)More functional gui for samba:
- network recycle bin,
- audit file and folder access,
- exclusion filters.
For example:
http ://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/VFS.html#id409794
http ://www.secaudi.com/blog/?p=40
2)Batch folder and user upload:
It can be useful when migrating from a Windows-fileserver to Freenas system.
3)Backup system:
- Several backup types - total, incremental, differential.
- Synchronization / Mirroring.
- Inclusion and Exclusion filters.
- Backup verification.
- Creation of customized folders - current date name, weekday name, etc...
Sometime i need copy all data from shared folder of freenas to shared folder of windows server.
4)What is the sacred meaning of duplication options in "Services" and "Control Services". May be better to remove "Control Services"?
5)What is the sacred meaning separation CIFS and Active Directory?
In the previous version was more convenient. Please take a look at netgear gui or
freenas-0.7.x.

6)"System"->"System information" - is the current-time information about your
system. This page ought to be open first, when entering the system,
(as it was in version 7) and must provide user with most important information about server condition.
In my opinion, most handy it is developed in dashboard in pfsense-2.0,
where the user can choose information he wants to be displayed.
On the secound place I would put the decision by QNAP in their storage
systems. The third goes freenas-072, and at last only fourth our new freenas-082.
For better understanding of my comment, can you please take a look at the pictures...

For the developers:
Can I expect the introduction of these small wishes in next release?

Have to say I agree with this, there's a lot of duplication between the two and people don't always realize they need to activate the service after just having configured it.

An alert in the various dialog boxes that "This service is currently disabled" would be a good addition. The navigation of the duplicated options is also a bit odd, since some things must be done one way and some the other.

I strongly agree with you.
I wonder if the developers read this topic.

I can give you the example of another more laconic and friendly interface.

The former colleague of our developers has released it recently.

Returning to our topic, I would like to take a notice at the current scheduler.
I simply can't understand the sense of this complicated glamour design.
We use it for work, not for enjoying the beautiful view.
Here are some alternative variants, as usual:

Freeman, I went looking for "System Information" and found your 2011 item. I have been using FreeNAS 7 for several years and miss this system overview information. I think it should be part of the core system. But I don't even see any jail plugin for this. When you have data at risk, you want to know system status. I know very technical people can did into the OS -- but that's not why we go for FreeNAS 8. I just checked the roadmap, and didn't see any focus on this? But I know the reviews have called this out quite a few times. Am I missing something? From a product management perspective, it's easy to just talk with people who are of "one type" -- say who don't need System Information -- but that would miss likely are larger number of people who would appreciate it.

Anyway, so far so good with FreeNAS 8. Really appreciate the good work. Thanks.

Each issue in this thread should have a feature request ticket created at support.freenas.org so that it does hit the developers. Don't include multiple issues in a ticket and make sure an existing ticket does not already exist (if it does, add a comment so that devs know more than one person wants this feature).
