MediaManager is it very slow, intermittant for anyone else?

Subject kinda covers it, it's very unresponsive, doesn't display thumbnails - just generally feels like it's 'broken' on my system. Is it normally like this? I assumed it was and ignored it, then today - 8 weeks after first setting it up, or more, I found the update button (not automatic) - I ran 18 updates, expecting many of the issues to be fixed, nope, exactly the same.

Anyone?

N54L HP Microserver, all other plugins run flawlessly. 8gb of ram. 2.2ghz dual core cpu
