I got the following error in the nightly e-mail message from my backup FreeNAS.

I looked at a couple other forum posts, and it seems that dmidecode was the tool to help identify the offending DIMM. I think the problem is a memory issue, but I guess it could be a CPU problem as well. This hardware specs are in the sig, but they are here as well.

Edit: I was running 11.1-U6.3 when the error occurred, but I am now running 11.1-U7. I have seen this error infrequently on my secondary unit. I have never seen the error on my primary unit which has very similar hardware.

Hi,

My suggestion is, that one of your DIMMs looks defective. I would get the manual of your motherboard and count up to Slot 9, or if there is a number thats even better. Should be memory channel 1, so the second channel from CPU0.

Normaly Cisco hardware comes also with some kind of iDRAC, ILO or whatsoever, so you can login and show what is wrong with the system. Otherwise you need to run several tests with Memtest86+ to find out if there is a hardware defect with your slot or memory module or on your CPU memeory controller, but these errors are kind of rare and do normaly affect a whole bunch of RAM slot connected to that channel.

Yes, I saw that other post. The problem I am having is that I haven't figured out how to determine which stick it was from the dmidecode output. I guess that is my real question. I ran memtest86 on this box for 2-3 days with no errors detected, and the CIMC has not reported any errors.

I guess with the MCA information you will not really find out which stick it is. Maybe just with the "Bank 9" and "Channel 1" you can try to, but nothing else.
dmidecode is useful with you got other error messages in you log. Do you have somithing like IPMI?
