macbook cant see NAS, windows laptops have no problem seeing NAS

Title says it all. Setup Nas a while ago, running fine, using for plex on tv. Windows laptop used most of the time to connect to Nas and upload new files, which worked just fine. Windows machines have no problem seeing the nas drives and writing to them. Got a new macbook and it refuses to connect when using Command K and manually entering what I know is the proper ip. Macbook just denies the login over and over. Server does NOT appear in finder. Tried using apr -a command line but it doesnt result in listing anything but wifi devices (nas is on hard ethernet connection). Any ideas? Is this common? OS BigSur
