Hey all,
I thought id share this as another datapoint for those wondering about how it compares. Its not a thorough benchmark test by any means, but what i experienced with some sample real world data.
SYSTEM:
Truenas Scale 22.04.2
R210ii with e3-1220v2 3.1/3.5ghz processor 16GB ram
2 mirrored vdevs with 8TB Ironwolf drives in an MD1200 disk shelf behind a ITmode flashed PERC
SAMPLE DATA:
5.4GB in 3722 files in 155 folders.
Typical user data: pdf's, doc, xls, jpegs, a few iso's and exe's
TEST PROCESS:
Copied via rsync from old freenas 11 server to the above
Repeated 3 times with consistent results
Created 3 datastores on the same pool with the only difference being the compression
LZ4:
101.59M bytes/sec & 5.28GB used
ZSTD-FAST:
94.65M bytes/sec & 5.26GB used
ZSTD:
84.53M bytes/sec & 5.25GB used
