I am building a home NAS with 8x 2TB SATA drives.

I am going to re-use a old Intel Q6600 CPU with 8GB DDR2.

However I need a new enclosure to accommodate 8 hot swap drives. (New or used on ebay)

It could be a bare bone case which support many front 5' bay, with standalone 5' to 3.5' bay (However I haven't found any with a Disk status led). (Any recommandation??)

Or a complete cases with bay. (Any recommandation??)

However where I get really confused, is for getting Activity/Smart failure led working.

It seem to depend on Controller, Back-plane, disk bay, and it seem to be done using SGPIO or SES-2 ?

I am not gonna use the hardware raid capability of a controller, i will be using ZFS for my software raid.

Any advise?

Thanks you!
