According to the manual, I created a syslog zdf dataset successfully but it did not create a log dir automatically so I do not see any log.
Do you have similar experience?
Thank you
Tom

so what is a syslog "zdf"? Cause I'm not familiar with the zdf acronym at all with ZFS.

I have the same issue. I created the ZFS syslog dataset (root/wheel 0775) Have shutdown and rebooted numerous times. Still can't get the system to store its log files...any other settings I'm missing? Documentation is pretty brief on this. Odd thing is I've had it work before...really scratching my head here, any ideas?
Thanks

As I reboot, I catch a log entry: ZFS datasets requires min 516MByte RAM. As I develop my freenas as a home project I use a 13 years old SONY notebook and a 10 year old desktop PC HDD...(see picture) with 516 MB RAM but the freenas system sees only 495 MB. It can be a problem...

If your system has less than 2GB of RAM with UFS or 8GB of RAM with ZFS, you shouldn't be using FreeNAS. It'll be unstable and crash alot.
