Link state up and down

I have a FreeNAS 11.2-U3 box that has run in a stable manner for several years. Suddenly I am getting messages in the console that:

Any ideas on a cause? Is this a sign of an interface going bad? igb1 is the interface that is primarily used on this box.

Were you able to determine the cause of this?

No. It continues to happen periodically... No regularity to it that I can determine.

I have seen similar behavior once when I had an inexpensive switch and it started to go bad. The switch was what was going down and back up but none of my other systems were telling me about it.
I bought a new switch and it was solved. This might not be the solution, but it would be worth testing if you could arrange for a loaner switch from somewhere.
